The Queen's community is remembering Mary Lou Boudreau, a proud alumna of the Occupational Therapy Program (Dip. 1974; BSc 1976), an influential occupational therapist, and Queen鈥檚 faculty member in the School of Rehabilitation Therapy. Mary Lou began her career working with people with intellectual disabilities in Eastern Ontario. She later served for close to 10 years as director of the Occupational Therapy program at Saint Mary鈥檚 of the Lake Hospital in Kingston.

Mary Lou was firmly committed to continuing education and research and after several years in practice returned to academia to complete an MSc in Community Health and Epidemiology. She happily contributed to the education of occupational therapy students at Queen鈥檚 University, as fieldwork coordinator, critical inquiry project supervisor, and term adjunct instructor for several courses at both graduate and undergraduate levels. She also served as a student preceptor in clinical and community development placements. Her commitment to excellence in fieldwork education resulted in her becoming co-author (with Catherine Donnelly) of The Community Development Progress and Evaluation Tool for community development fieldwork. She never lost her love for practice and for support of seniors in their communities, and late in her career she became a Master Facilitator of the Canadian Falls Prevention Curriculum.

Beyond her professional undertakings, Mary Lou was an artist and master quilter. She loved music, and was an enthusiastic member of several musical ensembles, primarily as a vocalist. She will be remembered for her warm smile, contagious optimism, and love of family, friends, and community.
