The Queen鈥檚 National Scholar Program is relaunching in 2025-26 with a focus on recruiting highly accomplished scholars who are global leaders in their fields of research, and who will help Queen鈥檚 meet its strategic goal to make meaningful change in the world and tackle society鈥檚 most pressing challenges.

鈥淲e are very happy to announce this new competition to attract outstanding and innovative world-class researchers who will advance Queen鈥檚 research impact,鈥 says Lynne Postovit, Vice-Provost (Academic Affairs). 鈥淭hese scholars will diversify and strengthen our research ecosystem and offer the highest quality teaching and supervision to our students.鈥

Three QNS positions will be available, with appointments beginning July 1, 2026. At the first stage of the competition, Dr. Postovit invites proposals for a Queen鈥檚 National Scholar position from faculties and schools. The QNS selection committee, which will be formed over the summer, will select three proposals to move to the second stage of the competition. This stage will follow the typical faculty recruitment process.

QNS searches are expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to employment equity and the pool of candidates will need to meet the QNS criteria, including commitments to Indigenization, diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and accessibility (I-EDIAA).

The Queen鈥檚 National Scholar (QNS) program was first established in 1985 to enrich teaching and research in emerging fields of knowledge and in traditional disciplines. Since then, more than 100 QNS appointments have been made in a wide variety of disciplines, including Indigenous Studies, Black Studies, Precision Molecular Medicine, and Environmental Geochemistry.

More information on the 2025-26 QNS program, including what to include in the proposal, is available on the Provost鈥檚 website. The deadline to submit to the Office of the Provost is August 29, 2025.
