Queen鈥檚 University graduate Adham El Sherbini has been named as a 2026 Rhodes Scholar, earning an opportunity to pursue a fully funded postgraduate education at the University of Oxford.

Adham graduated from Queen鈥檚 with a Bachelor of Health Sciences in 2024, and he is currently a second-year medical student at the University of Toronto. This selection brings Queen鈥檚 overall Rhodes Scholar total to 63.

鈥淢y experience at Queen鈥檚, particularly within the Faculty of Health Sciences, shaped my understanding of healthcare from clinical decision-making to population-level systems,鈥 says Adham. 鈥淭hose formative years sparked my pursuit of medicine and now serve as the foundation I hope to build upon at Oxford.鈥

Adham is passionate about medical education, having developed a free application that supports trainees in learning surgical steps. With multiple scientific publications, he has broad research experience in basic and clinical research, with a focus on digital health tools. Adham is also dedicated to improving global access to surgical care. He is a liaison officer for the Canadian Global Surgery Trainee Alliance in Toronto and is working on a project to improve intussusception outcomes in Ethiopia. Prior to medical school, he served as a program coordinator with the Queen鈥檚 University Correctional Services group.

鈥淥n behalf of the Queen鈥檚 community, I congratulate Adham on this inspiring and well-deserved accomplishment,鈥 says Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane. 鈥淗is innovative work in medical education, dedication to expanding global access to surgical care, and commitment to using digital tools to improve health outcomes are truly exceptional. The Rhodes Scholarship and his studies at Oxford will empower him to continue advancing patient care and strengthening health systems across the globe.鈥

Funded by the Rhodes Trust, more than 100 scholarships are awarded each year to students from around the world, including 11 scholarships each year for students from Canada. The scholarships to the University of Oxford provide the opportunity to pursue a fully funded, full-time postgraduate education.
