Queen鈥檚 University will mark the beginning of Pride Month with a Pride Flag Raising Ceremony on June 1 at 10 am at the Douglas Library flagpole, located at the corner of Union Street and University Avenue. All members of the Queen鈥檚 community are encouraged to attend.

The event will celebrate the diversity and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ community members at Queen鈥檚 and beyond, while also recognizing the ongoing work required to advance equity, inclusion, and belonging. Cookies and cupcakes will be served following the ceremony.

As Pride Month begins and Pride Season continues throughout the summer, the university is reaffirming its commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where all students, staff, and faculty can thrive.

That commitment extends beyond Pride celebrations through initiatives such as Pride 365, led by the Principal鈥檚 Action Group for Gender and Sexual Diversity (PAGGAS). The initiative aims to strengthen 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion, visibility, and celebration throughout the year.

鈥淧ride is both a celebration and a reminder that the work toward equality, safety, and inclusion continues,鈥 say Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane and Vice-Principal (Culture, Equity, and Inclusion) Stephanie Simpson in an email to the Queen鈥檚 community. 鈥淎t Queen鈥檚, we are committed to creating an environment where members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community feel welcomed, supported, and valued every day of the year.鈥

The university encourages all members of the Queen鈥檚 community to participate in the June 1 ceremony and continue supporting efforts to build a more inclusive campus for all.
