The event will mark 10 years of Nobel-winning science and the continued impact of the McDonald Institute.

The Queen’s and Kingston community are invited to Decoding the Cosmos, a special event recognizing a major federal government investment in the Arthur B. McDonald Canadian Astroparticle Physics Research Institute (McDonald Institute) and the 10th anniversary of Dr. Arthur B. McDonald’s Nobel Prize in Physics.

The Nobel Prize awarded in 2015 recognized Dr. Arthur McDonald’s leadership in research that proved neutrinos have mass, a discovery that fundamentally changed our understanding of the universe. That achievement helped lay the foundation for the McDonald Institute, which today brings together researchers and partners from around the world to advance work in astroparticle physics and explore fundamental questions about the cosmos. Continued investments in the McDonald Institute place Canada, SNOLAB, and Queen’s at the forefront of international physics research and will help to inspire a new generation of advances in science.

The October 17 event will recognize vital federal support for world-leading research, celebrate a remarkable scientific legacy, showcase Canada’s leadership in astroparticle physics, and look head to a future of discovery and possibility.
