˴Ƭ expert Amarnath Amarasingam is available to talk about recent developments regarding the arrest and charging of four Quebec City-area men – including two active members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) – in connection with an armed plot to create an “anti-government militia.” The RCMP charged three men with facilitating terrorist activity and a fourth with multiple explosives and firearms offenses. The plot reportedly involved plans to forcibly take possession of land in the Quebec City area and included the possession of extensive weaponry, ammunition, and explosives.

Dr. Amarasingam, an Associate Professor in the School of Religion with a cross-appointment in the Department of Political Studies, specializes in terrorism, radicalization, and extremism.

He can provide expert analysis on ideologically motivated violent extremism, the dynamics of militia movements, and the broader implications for Canadian national security. With extensive research and publications on related topics, Dr. Amarasingam offers valuable insight into understanding the motivations behind such plots, the role of online communities, and strategies for prevention and response.
