Submitting your application is the first step in your residence journey. Make sure you complete the following steps to ensure your application is complete and that you are ready for self-selection.
Step 1
Make sure that you have successfully submitted your residence application and paid the deposit.
Step 2
Submit a Residence Health or Non-Health Accommodation form (if necessary).
Step 3
Create a roommate group!
Step 4
Find out if you have been accepted into a Living Learning Community (LLC) if you applied to one.
Step 5
Take part in self-selection, where you will choose the building, floor, and room for the upcoming year.
Step 1: Make sure that you have successfully submitted your application and paid the deposit
Once you have completed your residence application, you will receive an automated email confirmation. If you do not receive this email within 20 minutes of submitting your application, contact reslife@queensu.ca to ensure your application was received. Make sure to check your spam or junk email folder first.
When you have paid your deposit, your application will update to show a notice confirming that your application is complete, and your deposit is received. You will also receive an automated email confirmation. This is a separate communication from the ones you received when completing your application. Your deposit must be received by the June 1, 4 pm ET deadline.
If you were not guaranteed a space in residence in your offer letter, we will contact you within 10 business days of the deadline to confirm whether you have a residence space. If we cannot provide you with one, your deposit will be refunded.
How to pay your feesStep 2: Submit a Residence Health or Non-Health Accommodation form (if necessary)
As a first step, review our Intake Guide so you know what to do and what to expect. Access and submit forms via the .
Deadline for applying for accommodations: June 1, 2026, at 4 pm ET.
You will receive an automatic confirmation email upon successful submission of a Residence Accommodation Form (health or non-health). If you submit a request for a health/creed/spirituality/gender expression identity request before the June 1, 4 pm ET deadline, we will contact you via email before June 26.
New or amended requests received after this date will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, but room availability may be limited, and late accommodation requests may not be able to be resolved prior to self-selection and/or move-in.
Accommodations Intake GuideStep 3: Create a roommate group!
You can create a roommate group starting in early July and during self-selection. You cannot form a roommate group before the application deadline.
Using the pre-defined questions, you can search for a roommate or create a roommate group with someone you already know. Roommate invitations must be sent and accepted in order for the roommate group to be formed.
You will only be able to form a roommate group with someone who has been guaranteed residence. If you have been selected for an LLC or requested a Unique Community (UC), you will only be able to request a roommate if your roommate(s) has also been selected for / requested the same LLC/UC. Other restrictions will also apply – for example, all rooms in Study Floor are Single, and so roommate groups are not possible in this community.
Your roommate group will be cancelled, and you will be treated as individual applicants if one or more members of your roommate group:
- Has not submitted their application on time and/or their deposit has not been received by the deadline
- Is not eligible for residence
- Has not been guaranteed residence
- Has withdrawn their application for residence
- Has not accepted the roommate invitation
Step 4: Find out if you have been accepted into a Living Learning Community (LLC)
If you have applied to a Living and Learning Community, we will contact you in late June/early July with the status of your application.
If you are successful, we will send a reminder about where the LLC will be located along with the opportunity to opt out, if you wish, by a specified deadline. To opt out, you must do so via the form on the . If you requested to be in a Unique Community, you will also have the option to opt-out.
Living Learning and Unique CommunitiesStep 5: Get ready for Self-Selection
Before self-selection, we will run a lottery to determine when you'll access the system to choose your residence space. You’ll receive your self-selection date and time via email during the week of July 7.
Self-selection webinar: July 8, 2026, at 6 pm ET.
Self-selection begins the week of July 13. Students with approved accommodations, those in Living and Learning Communities, Unique Communities applicants, or those requesting a Loft Double will select this week. Most students will self-select from July 22–24. If you haven’t selected a room by the time your self-selection period closes, the Residence Admissions team will assign you a space from the remaining inventory.
We strongly encourage you to plan ahead and have a list of your preferred buildings and room types (in order), ready to go, when you log in on your self-selection day and time. You can see residence floor plans and photos online on our building pages.
