The Department of Geography and Planning is pleased to share a recent publication authored by PhD candidate Bhavya Bogra.

The first paper, Mobility challenges at the intersection of old age, gender and immigration: a scoping review, was published in Transport Reviews journal. This paper examines the literature on the mobility needs and challenges faced by older adults living in North American cities. The review emphasizes the necessity of intersectional, context-sensitive policy interventions to address the distinct mobility needs of older adults, women, and immigrants in North America.

The second paper, 鈥淏ridging the Gap: Accessibility for Aging and Disability in Planning,鈥 has been published in the Journal of the American Planning Association (JAPA). This publication emerged from a roundtable organized by Andy Hong and Mahtot Gebresselassie at the ACSP (Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning) 2024 Conference, which sparked important conversations around accessibility, aging, disability, and inclusive planning.  The paper focus on the overlap in planning requirements for older adults and people with disabilities that creates strong potential for collaboration. A centrally shared challenge is inaccessibility in the built environment. Despite overlapping theory and design principles, there is a gap in policy, practice, and research that jointly explore accessibility issues for both groups.
