Master of Planning Program: Program of Study

This two-year multidisciplinary program requires 48 credit units (16 courses).There are three paths to the degree (after 2014):

Coursework Option: Core + 24 credit units
Report Option: Core + 18 credit units+ report (equivalent of 6 credit units)
Thesis Option: Core + 12 credit unit + thesis (equivalent of 12 credit units)
They are augmented by a summer term of professional/research experience.

The course arrays are as follows: seven compulsory core courses (SURP 812, 814, 815, 817, 818, 819 and one of the compulsory project courses), two constrained elective courses in a designated area of concentration (including one methodological course, which is typically comprised of two independent skills modules), and other unconstrained electives. The summer between the first and second year is used in acquiring professional/research experience.

The School has a rigorous internship program, with placements at all three levels of government and in the civil society sector and the private sector, as well as internationally. A Master's report or thesis, which is an in-depth research on a planning topic, is available in second year.
