Community Housing provides quality, affordable housing for full-time Queen’s University students enrolled in on-campus undergraduate, graduate, or professional programs. Helping students secure university-owned housing, Community Housing uses an equitable selection process to ensure fair access to rental opportunities.

Position Title    
An Clachan Community Assistant (Casual Position)

Job Summary
As a vital contributor to building community at An Clachan, the Community Assistant's main responsibilities will be based around event support and facilitation, relationship building and role modelling as a contributing community member.

Eligibility   
Applicants must currently reside at An Clachan with a commitment to reside at An Clachan for the duration of their appointment. Should tenancy at An Clachan end, the position as Community Assistant would also end. Applicants must have sufficient and flexible time in their schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends, to fulfill the following responsibilities:

  • Community Assistants must be able to work with a diverse population as an individual who embraces difference;
  • The ideal candidate will be friendly and approachable with a desire to build relationships with An Clachan community members and to support An Clachan events whether they are virtual or in-person;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;
  • Discretion in dealing with confidential matters;
  • Have at-home access to an internet connection and personal computer preferred;
  • Community Assistants must comply with all terms of the Lease at the time of application and throughout the appointment and follow all Community Housing policies;
  • Fluent in English;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred;
  • Experience with Facebook and online platforms such as Microsoft Teams and/or Zoom are essential;
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada;
  • CPIC and Vulnerable Sector Check Required: The nature of the position requires you to obtain both a Canadian Police Information Centre ("CPIC") Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check and to produce the Latter(s) of Clearance prior to your start date. A recent CPIC/Vulnerable Sector Check may be used if it is dated within 6 months of the first day of employment. Any lapse may have implications for your continued employment status. The University can require that a new Letter of Clearance be produced at any time. In addition, it is required to immediately disclose to the University any occurrence and/or circumstance(s) that might impact your ability to receive a clear CPIC or Vulnerable Sector Check;

Hours of Work  
The Community Assistant will work up to 10 hours per week at An Clachan. Weekly schedules include regular days, evenings, and weekends with significant work in the evenings.

Reporting   
Reports directly to the Manager of Community Housing, in the Community Housing Department.

Compensation   
$16.55 per hour
