For over six decades NYO Canada has enjoyed a reputation as this nation's pre-eminent pre-professional orchestral training institute, providing an essential bridge to the profession for Canada's finest young musicians aged 16–28.

We are delighted to host National Youth Orchestra of Canada here at Queen’s this summer. Following an intensive six-week residential training institute, NYO will perform a concert at the Isabel featuring brand new commissions to the beloved favourites of Richard Strauss and Johannes Brahms.

Join us for the book launch, reading, and concert celebrating Suzanne Pasternak’s new book Minerva, a dramatic and true cross-border story that tells the tale of a young 17-year-old ship’s cook from 1878. Minerva McCrimmon was a famous heroine in both Oswego, New York and Prince Edward County, in Canada.

Andreas Schmalhofer won the First Prize of the 2015 Johann-Andreas-Stein Competition, Third Prize of the 2017 international Anton Rubinstein Competition, a special prize in Gersthofen competition, and Fourth Prize of the 2018 PeterPirazzi-Stiftung Competition in Frankfurt. Andreas is a prizewinner of the Allegro Vivo Festival in Austria.

Bryan Cheng has secured a distinctive place in the world of classical music. He made his solo debut at age 10 with the Orchestre de chambre I Musici de Montréal, his Carnegie Hall recital debut at 14, and his Elbphilharmonie debut in 2018 with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.

Leland Ko is a twenty-two-year-old cellist of Chinese-Canadian descent who was a long-time student of Ronald Lowry and Paul Katz before attending Princeton University, where he recently graduated with a B.A. degree. He will begin his studies at The Juilliard School in the fall under the tutelage of Minhye Clara Kim and Timothy Eddy.

the winter in canada are a storm, delivering moments of elemental fury between periods of calm textures in their music. During their live sets, the band administers a raucous alternative rock and roll punk show through waves of guitars and drums.

Singer/songwriter duo, Your Paris, draws from their real-life relationship to create multi-genre inspired pop tunes. Even while singing about heartbreak, they’ve been told that they make people want to fall in love. Their music is edgy and bold, while remaining vulnerable. They are often praised for their on stage chemistry, soaring harmonies, and candid lyrics.

Solomon Woodland is a singer/songwriter from Ontario Canada, he performs original music in a folk-country fashion inspired by the greats such as Townes Van Zandt, Johnny Cash, and many others. Solomon has been most complimented and known for his haunting voice accompanied by a rhythmic southern style of guitar playing.

Throughout her career, Alex has always turned to song writing to tell her story. “When I have something to say, music is my megaphone. I love the challenge of taking an idea and sculpting it into a succinct hook or phrase. Putting each element together—the chord progression, melody, instrumentation, lyrics—the writing process is like my therapy. Everything seems to make more sense after I've written it into a song.”

Julia Finnegan is an indie-folk singer/songwriter. Performing from the age of 13, Julia has grown up telling stories through song. In 2015, Julia released her first EP entitled Thoughts Collide which received radio-play across the region and across Canada on CBC Radio.

Michelle is on a journey to establish herself as a top jazz and AC singer in the Canadian music scene. Commended for her rich tone and vocal command, she continues to draw praise from audiences and musicians alike, including Juno Award winning artists Ranee Lee (Vocal Jazz Album of the Year, 2010) and Hugh Johnston (Musicounts Teacher of the Year, 2012).

Sadaf Amini was born in Tehran, Iran, where, at the age of 12, she began studying the santur, and later entered Tehran Music School. In 2012, she received her Bachelor's degree in Iranian Music Performance from Tehran University. During her studies, she trained with the following masters of the santur: Said Sabet, Mina Oftadeh, Siamak Aghaei, Ardavan Kamkar, Majid Kiani, and Daryush Talaei. In 2014, she immigrated to Canada where she received her Master's degree in Music Technology and Digital Media, University of Toronto, in 2018.

Savannah and Michael met as choristers in Cantabile Choirs of Kingston. Their musical collaboration officially began in high school. Along with three other friends, Michael and Savannah started a pop cover band that played for talent shows and school coffee houses.

Abby Stewart is an 18 year old singer/songwriter from Kingston, Ontario. A true Canadian girl, she plays hockey and softball but feels most at home on the music stage, achieving some pretty impressive successes in her budding career. In 2014, she opened for Hunter Hayes on his Tattoo Your Name Canadian Tour dates along with Dan + Shay, and has had the privilege of being invited on stage to sing duets with Dean Brody, Dallas Smith, Aaron Pritchett, and the Hunter Brothers.
