Equity and Accessibility Services

Within Equity and Accessibility Services (EAS), we promote equitable and accessible environments through policy leadership, consultation, training, and strategic initiatives.

EAS Mandate

Our goal is to work with the University to help ensure equity and accessibility are addressed and embedded throughout Queen's practices and initiatives.
 

Our Services

We work collaboratively with students, employees, and senior leadership to:

  • Promote compliance with equity and accessibility legislation, including the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Federal Contractors Program (FCP), along with related institutional reporting requirements. 

  • Advance strategic equity and accessibility goals, including the University Accessibility Plan, the Employment Equity Plan, and other university-wide initiatives. 

  • Support the implementation of inclusive hiring and planning practices, through tools such as the Queen’s Equity Appointment Process (QEAP), which supports employment equity in employee hiring, and the Diversity and Equity Assessment and Planning (DEAP) Tool, used to integrate equity goals into annual planning and Cyclical Program Reviews (CPRs). 

  • Develop accessible educational resources, training programs, and equity-focused data strategies to promote institutional accountability and transparency.

Advisor Support

Our advisors provide support by:

  • Consultation and Advice: We provide advice on accessibility and equity-related issues in teaching, research, and administration. This includes interpreting obligations under relevant legislation and university policies and identifying strategies to remove systemic barriers for equity-deserving groups. 

  • Equity and Accessibility Planning: We provide guidance to academic and administrative units in developing and implementing equity plans, accessibility planning, as well as consultations for accessible events, learning environments, and digital spaces. We also help units interpret representation data and unit profiles related to equity-deserving groups to support informed planning and action. 

  • Policy and Program Development: We provide recommendations on the development and review of equity and accessibility policies and procedures, accessible educational resources, training programs, and equity-focused data strategies to promote institutional accountability and transparency. 

  • Accessibility Hub: We manage and maintain the Accessibility Hub, a centralized resource for information on accessibility services, tools, and training at Queen’s.
