The Department of Geography and Planning at Queen’s University invites applications from suitably qualified full-time graduate students at Queen’s University interested in teaching an undergraduate course during the 2025/2026 academic year. Fall term appointments are for the period of September 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025 with classes in session from September 2, 2025 to December 5, 2025. Winter term appointments are for the period of January 1, 2026 to April 30, 2026, with classes in session from January 5, 2026 to April 3, 2026.

Candidates must be enrolled as a Ph.D. student at Queen’s University. The University invites applications from all qualified individuals. This includes demonstrated interpersonal and teaching skills, including the ability to collaborate and work with faculty members, staff, and students with diverse backgrounds. Graduate Teaching Fellows are the instructors of record for the course and carry full responsibility. Duties include planning, preparing class materials, teaching, meeting with and/or responding to student queries, grading assignments, and reporting grades.

Graduate Teaching Fellows are expected to comply with all Queen’s University Policies.

Graduate Teachings Assistants and Teaching Fellows at ³ÉÈË´óÆ¬ are governed by the Collective Agreement for Teaching Assistants and Teaching Fellows between PSAC Local 901 and ³ÉÈË´óƬ.
 
Remuneration will be in accordance with the Collective Agreement, and appointments are subject to funding and enrolment criteria.

•    a cover letter; 
•    a complete and current curriculum vitae;
•    a course outline including readings;
•    a letter of reference from one (1) referee preferably your PhD Supervisor; and
•    any other relevant materials the candidate wishes to submit for consideration such as a teaching dossier, student evaluations, etc.

Applicants are required to indicate their Preference Group (if applicable) as outlined in Article 12.08 in Collective Agreement for Teaching Assistants and Teaching Fellows between PSAC Local 901 and ³ÉÈË´óÆ¬ within their cover letter. Course Description:
  An examination of ecological and earth system processes that affect the dynamics of organisms, their spatial patterns and their variability in time.  


GPHY 227    Cities: Geography, Planning, and Urban Life (Fall Term | Enrollment Capacity: 136)
Course Description:  The city from a geographical and planning perspective. Topics include origins of urbanism; mega; migrant, and global cities; urban competitiveness; land use planning and design; suburbanization and sprawl; new urban identities and culture; retailing transport; public space; private and temporary cities; urban poverty; politics and governance; sustainable urban futures.


GPHY 304    Northern and Arctic Environments (Winter Term | Enrollment Capacity: 99)
Course Description: Interdisciplinary study of the geography of northern regions, emphasizing the Canadian Arctic.
