Congratulations to Rosaleen Hill, Associate Professor of Paper, Photography, and New Media Conservation, who has received the 2025 Charles Mervyn Ruggles Award for her outstanding contributions to the field of heritage and art conservation.

The award, announced at the annual conference of the Canadian Association for the Conservation of Cultural Property (CAC-ACCR), recognizes Rosaleen鈥檚 remarkable achievements in advancing conservation practice in Canada and her deep commitment to the ethics and ideals of the profession. The award aims to encourage the pursuit of excellence in conservation across Canada, and Rosaleen fully embodies this goal through her research, teaching, and professional practice.

Rosaleen is an inspiring educator, conservator, and colleague in the Master of Art Conservation Program at Queen鈥檚 University. She has mentored and encouraged a generation of paper conservators through her boundless enthusiasm and expertise. Her teaching models best practice by integrating new techniques in the field while grounding them in the ethical principles outlined in the CAC/CAPC Code of Ethics and Guidance for Practice.

Her recent research includes studies of 19th-century papers; treatment and technical investigations of prints by Inuit artist Kenojuak Ashevak; and explorations of fugitive media such as watercolour and water-soluble pencils. She also serves as a principal investigator for Curriculum Shifts, a Mellon Foundation鈥揻unded project dedicated to diversifying the curriculum in art conservation education at Queen鈥檚 University.
