NSERC-USRAs (Undergraduate Student Research Awards) and USSRFs (Undergraduate Student Summer Research Fellowships) are awards that provide financial support for engaging in research under the direction of a faculty member. These awards are meant to nurture and develop your interest in research. If you would like to gain research work experience that complements your studies in an academic setting, these awards can provide you with financial support through your host university.
We encourage all qualified applicants to apply, including applicants who are Indigenous, women, visible minorities, BIPOC, persons with disabilities, and those who identify as 2SLGBTQI+. NSERC and Queen鈥檚 are acting on the evidence that achieving a more equitable, diverse and inclusive Canadian research enterprise is essential to creating the excellent, innovative and impactful research necessary to advance knowledge and understanding, and to respond to local, national and global challenges. We require the completion of a PSYC departmental application form, and encourage you to review requirements for this form early as it contains important information on eligibility and process.

Duration and value of 2026 NSERC-USRA and USSRF awards

Students awarded an NSERC-USRA will receive $10,832.64 (+ mandatory employer payroll deductions)

Students awarded a USSRF will receive $10,832,64 (including benefits)

NSERC-USRA projects can range from 14 to 16 weeks on a full-time basis (35 hrs / week)

USSRF projects are for 16-weeks at full-time work on a full-time basis (35hrs / week)

You must work under the supervision of a faculty member. The Psychology Faculty members listed above are accepting applications for NSERC USRA and USSRF Summer 2026. Please follow up with them directly via email with your unofficial transcript to see whether they would be willing to supervise you for one of these awards.
Once you have secured approval from a Faculty member, please complete the PSYC Department Application Form (PDF, 154 KB). Ensure to complete sections A and B. The deadline to submit the fully completed application form the UG office (ug.psyc@queensu.ca) is Wednesday, February 4 2026 at 4:00pm EST. Please copy your Faculty supervisor when sending in your application.
Once the PSYC Awards Committee has selected the award nominees, successful applicants will be notified by email starting Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
You will need to formally accept your offer via email to the UG office by Monday, March 2, 2026. NSERC-USRA award nominees need to complete the necessary documentation/forms required from NSERC (via NSERC application site) by Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
Please note鈥攖his is a very short turn around. If you are selected, you will need to move quickly to meet the deadline by NSERC and Queen鈥檚 Research Office. This is a 鈥渉ard鈥 deadline, and cannot be adjusted.
