April 28th marked Alfred Bader鈥檚 100th birthday!

Bader, a lifetime scholar, art collector, and philanthropist was rejected by McGill for being Jewish and so chose to attend Queen鈥檚 University鈥攖heir loss being our gain. But his work is hardly limited to Kingston. Bader鈥檚 many contributions to Canadian intellectual and artistic culture have been of profound importance: the work of Alfred and his wife Isabel have helped sustain art and enquiry even during the most fervid anti-intellectual times.

Queen鈥檚 Jewish studies owes Alfred Bader a special debt. His gifts have allowed us to build our program, provide Kingston with Jewish cultural events, and have support our scholars and students, granting them the freedom to study and work independently and freely. The Baders鈥 support has helped us build on solid ground, which we are deeply grateful for.
