Özlem Atar
Assistant Professor (Term Adjunct)
Gender Studies
Bio: I am an international researcher from Türkiye (formerly Turkey). I have PhDs in Communication Sciences and Cultural Studies. Intercultural communication theory and practice, especially as it pertains to marginalized persons' negotiations of cultural and national belonging, fiction and nonfiction about women's, children's and now older persons’ border crossing, and the junction of migrant justice activism, literature, and creative industries make up my most recent areas of research. An apt description of me would be a hungry reader. Hans Christian Andersen's "The Emperor's New Clothes" is to blame for my addiction to well-crafted, socially committed literature. In my spare time, I write nonfiction and translate between Turkish and English.
