Bird Life on Campus: A Walk to Notice Nature (Thrive 365)
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
In the pace of our busy workday, it's easy to move through campus without truly noticing the environment around us. This guided walk invites you to pause, tune in and experience the wellbeing benefits of engaging with nature through your senses. Led by experienced birder Chris Grooms, this session offers a gentle observational walk across campus where participants will learn to notice and appreciate the movement, sounds, and behaviours of local and migratory birds.
Spending even a short time observing nature has been shown to support mental and emotional wellbeing, helping to reduce stress, restore attention and create a sense of connection beyond our immediate tasks. Through this experience, participants will be encouraged to shift their focus outward, engaging curiosity and presence in a simple yet meaningful way.
Whether you're new to birding or simply looking for a refreshing midday reset, this session offers the opportunity to experience campus from a different perspective. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars if they have them and come prepared for a relaxed, mindful walk.
This session supports Thrive 365 by promoting Environmental Wellness through connection with the natural world while also enhancing Personal Wellness by encouraging mindfulness, sensory engagement, and stress reduction. It further contributes to Belonging and Social Connection by creating a shared, low-pressure space for participants to connect with colleagues in an outdoor setting.
