ENGL 466: Asian Canadian Literature

We will discuss a select number of contemporary novels by East Asian and South Asian Canadian authors concerned with anti-Asian racism, mixed-race identities, LGBTQ+ identities, mental health, and the climate crisis – issues that often intersect. Unlike earlier works by Canadian authors of Asian descent, texts written in the last decade no longer focus on issues of migration and conflicts between generations. Instead, representations of race and ethnicity have become not only more complex but also more playful and transgressive.
