
Villages collide, cities merge, distances collapse. You can see Mont-Saint-Michel from your apartment window in Paris, and Chartres Cathedral is in your neighbour鈥檚 garden. The world is shrinking. At least, that was how nineteenth-century Europe saw it. All of which was just a dramatic way of describing the distinctly modern phenomenon of space-time compression. The opening credits sequence for Game of Thrones captures the flavour 鈥
