Dr. Stéfanie von Hlatky, a professor in the Department of Political Studies, is one of three Queen's researchers inducted this year into the Royal Society of Canada's College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists â€” a national honour recognizing exceptional early- to mid-career academics. As the Canada Research Chair in Gender, Security, and the Armed Forces, Dr. von Hlatky is widely regarded for her influential research on gender dynamics within military organizations and international security institutions.

Her work has had real-world impact, informing policy at both national and international levels. She provided expert testimony during the Arbour Review into sexual misconduct in the Canadian Armed Forces and has contributed to reform efforts within NATO. Through her research and advocacy, Dr. von Hlatky is helping shape more inclusive and equitable defense policies in Canada and beyond, reinforcing Queen’s University’s leadership in socially engaged scholarship.
