Collaborating with the , Prof. Park and her group members, Dr. Jessie Thwaites and Bryan Owens, organized IceCube Masterclasses on April 11th and April 18th. The goal of the IceCube Masterclass is to provide an overview of the high-energy neutrino observations with the IceCube observatory, a cubic-kilometre particle detector built into the Antarctic ice beneath the South Pole. The Masterclass is designed for high school and early undergraduate students. A total of twenty-one research institutions around the world organized the IceCube Masterclass this year, including Queen鈥檚 University.

The Masterclass includes lectures on fundamental particles and the detection methods used in IceCube neutrino observations, a presentation on IceCube research conducted by a graduate student, and a remote conversation with people at the South Pole who are staying over the Antarctic winter. On April 11th, 20 students, mainly from the Kingston and Toronto area, participated in the in-person masterclass. On April 18th, 6 students across Canada joined remotely.
