Christine Sypnowich, was Oliver Smithies Visiting Research Lecturer at Balliol College, Oxford, April-June 2025, to pursue research on cultural heritage and socialism. She gave three Oxford lectures – a Smithies lecture at Balliol entitled ‘Dreaming Spires and Colonial Nightmares: Cultural Heritage, Human Flourishing and Social Justice’, a talk on ‘Justice and Community: Reflections on G.A. Cohen’s Socialism’ to the Oxford Philosophy Society, and a presentation on ‘Property: Yours or Ours?’ to the Cerberus (PPE) Society at Balliol College. The Balliol lectureship is a competitive one, and provides living accommodation, including office space, and dining rights in the college.
