In his talk, Dr. Arenas will discuss:

  • Identifying key infections (e.g., sporotrichosis, chromoblastomycosis, mycetoma) and their geographic distribution

  •  Differentiating common clinical morphologies encountered in endemic regions and travel-related cases
  • Appreciating barriers to diagnosis and treatment in resource-limited settings and implications for care in non-endemic regions

Dr. Roberto Arenas is a renowned Mexican dermatologist specializing in dermatology and medical mycology. He leads the Mycology Section at Hospital General “Dr. Manuel Gea González” in Mexico City, where he oversees clinical care, research, and training in fungal skin diseases. Additionally, he serves as a Senior Researcher (Investigador Titular E) at the National Institutes of Health, highlighting his impactful contributions to medical research.

A distinguished member of the National Academy of Medicine, Dr. Arenas has received one of Mexico’s highest honors for his excellence in clinical practice and scholarship. He has held prominent leadership roles including President of the Mexican Society and Mexican Academy of Dermatology, and the Ibero-Latin American College of Dermatology, promoting collaboration and education throughout Latin America.
