Dr. Kristine Spekkens, professor in the Department of Physics, Engineering Physics, and Astronomy at Queen’s, will be a featured panelist in an upcoming webinar on Canada–South Africa collaboration in astronomy and science policy.
Hosted by the , the webinar, "Canada, South Africa, Astronomy, and the SKAO: a Strategic Research Partnership” will take place on April 16 from 12:00–1:30 p.m. EDT and will bring together leading experts from across Canada’s science and policy communities.
Dr. Spekkens is a key figure in the global initiative, serving as Canada’s SKA Science Director and Chair of the SKAO’s Science and Engineering Advisory Committee.
The webinar will focus on the growing research partnership between Canada and South Africa through their shared involvement in the SKAO - an ambitious, 16-country partnership building large scale radio telescopes in South Africa and Australia. These next-generation facilities are expected to transform our understanding of the universe, while also driving innovation in data science, engineering, and international research collaboration.
The panel aims to align research priorities and national interests with emerging science policy innovations in both Canada and South Africa, with a focus on identifying opportunities, addressing challenges, and exploring ways to move forward.
