The first year after having a baby involves significant physical, emotional, and lifestyle changes. Designed for Queen's staff who are postpartum, supporting someone postpartum or simply interested in female health, this talk will translate research into realistic, compassionate guidance for daily life in the first year after birth. By the end of this session, you'll be able to describe how movement, sedentary time and sleep interact to influence recovery and wellbeing in the first year after birth. Summarize the key recommendations from the Canadian Guideline for Physical Activity, Sedentary Behaviour&Sleep Throughout the First Year Postpartum. Recognize common postpartum changes and identify when additional support may be helpful. Explain practical and flexible ways to gradually return to movement while respecting fatigue, healing, and caregiving demands.

People of all gender identities may experience hormonal and other physical-related health needs. While some content references health topics commonly associated with female health experiences, the information shared is also relevant to non-binary, gender-diverse, and transgender individuals. All participants are welcome and the session aims to support inclusive, respectful, and informed wellbeing for all.
