Race, Migration, and the Canadian Nation

A resurgence of nationalism has Canadians pushing forward with their “elbows up” to reestablish the nation’s position as an economic stronghold. However, what does this rise of nationalism mean? Who is included and who remains in the margins? Through a diverse survey of Indigenous, settler, and racialized voices in poetry, music, and fiction, students will critically examine the pluralistic rhetoric of multiculturalism and  constructions of Canadian identity. By using a combination of traditional and alternative teaching methods, this course aims to engage students of all learning styles.
