When is my registration timeslot/enrolment appointment?
Enrolment Appointment Times were released through SOLUS on July 13. To find your Enrolment Appointment Time, go into your SOLUS Student Centre. Click on the 鈥淢anage Classes鈥 tile, then select 鈥淓nrolment Dates鈥 from the left-side navigation. Select a term and then view the first time listed next to 鈥淩egular Academic Session鈥 to locate your earliest Enrolment Appointment Time.
Use your Shopping Cart!
When preparing for registration in SOLUS, you should be using your鈥疭hopping Cart, not your Planner. The planner database shows every course that has ever鈥痓een offered at Queen's, and many of these courses are now obsolete; may have a different course code and may not even be offered this coming year!鈥疶his can be very confusing if you're trying to search for a class on SOLUS. The鈥疭hopping Cart, on the other hand, allows you to add classes that have been confirmed for the next academic year. Your Shopping Cart opens on July 13.

How do I find a course on SOLUS?
To ensure you are viewing all course options in SOLUS, please use the 鈥淎dditional ways to search鈥 function under 鈥淐lass Search and Enrol鈥 in the 鈥淢anage Classes鈥 tile. Once you have selected a subject, click 鈥淪earch鈥 and you will be able to toggle other search filters such as class open/closed status and course career. How do I find out the prerequisites for a course I want to take?
There are two ways to find the prerequisites for a course. You can search the Courses of Instruction section of the Academic Calendar. You can also perform a search via the Class Search and Enrol feature, select the class you鈥檙e interested in, then click the lecture link then enrolment information.
I鈥檓 trying to enrol into a repeat course, but I am receiving an error message saying requirements have not been met.

How do I find courses that are offered online?
Perform a search via the Class Search and Enrol feature then select the Undergraduate Online filter on the left-hand side. If you are trying to register for an online course, but are getting an error saying that the seats are 鈥渞eserved for students in other programs鈥, that is because all of the remaining seats in these courses are being held for students enrolled in a Distance Career.鈥疶his restriction will be removed on the first day of the applicable term and you may enrol in these courses at that time provided there is still space available. If there is space on the waitlist, add yourself to it and you may be enrolled once these restrictions are lifted on the first day of classes.
How many courses am I allowed to take?
We recommend that students take 15.0 units per term, but students can add up to 18.0 units in courses per term. During Registration, students can add a sixth course/18.0 units on August 17th once Open Enrolment begins.
I want to request a Course Overload
To take more than six courses/18.0 units in any term, you must seek special permission from an Academic Advisor. Further information including the course overload request form, can be found under Course Planning and Options, under course overload Course Planning and Options webpage.
I want to add more than one course to my waitlist.
Students are only able to add one waitlisted course per term for now, and will be able to add a second waitlisted course per term starting August 17. Please note that waitlisted courses count towards your units per term.
I see that there is a space available in the class, but the class is still showing as closed. Why?
When there are students on a wait list for a class, that class will remain closed until all of the students have been moved from the wait list into the class. In other words, when there are students on the wait list, another student cannot bypass the wait list and enrol in the class if they see that a space has become available.
Can I go on a wait list for a class that meets at the same time as another class that I am enrolled in?
SOLUS will allow you to go on a wait list for a class that is in conflict with an enrolled class, but you will never be enrolled into the class even if space opens up. SOLUS will not enrol you in a conflict. If your plan is to drop the conflicting class in place of the wait listed class, be sure to use the 鈥淪WAP鈥 function when you add yourself to the wait list for the desired class. By using the swap function, SOLUS will add you to the wait listed course when a space becomes available and also drop you from the class you choose to swap.
I want to switch my lab/tutorial for a class I am enrolled in but the lab/tutorial is full. Can I wait list for the one I want?
If you are enrolled in a class and use the UPDATE function to switch to a section where the waitlist is active, you will LOSE YOUR SPACE IN THE CLASS! If the lab or tutorial you want is full and there is a wait list, SOLUS will drop you from the class and add you to the wait list for both the lecture and the lab/tutorial. Before choosing to UPDATE, it is a good idea to make sure that the lectures, labs, tutorials are open.
What would prevent me from getting on a wait list?
- You are trying to add yourself to a wait list before the start of your enrolment appointment time.
- You have exceeded the maximum number of units allowed for the term.
- You are trying to exceed the maximum number of wait list units.
- You do not meet the course requisites.
- There are no more wait list seats available for the course.
- You have a hold on your record that blocks enrolment.
If I鈥檓 in a full-year course, do the meetings have to be the same time each semester?
Yes, full-year courses need to be the same time each semester.鈥疻hen adding the B portion of a full-year course to your Winter Shopping Cart, make sure that the section numbers correspond to the section numbers you added to your Fall Shopping Cart. For example if you put CHEM 112A-002鈥痠n the Fall, you should have CHEM 112B-002鈥痠n the Winter. SOLUS will not allow you to mix and match sections when you enrol. If you are a full-year student, you should be aiming for 30.0 units for the year (5 courses each term).
What if my classes are scheduled back to back? Isn't that a conflict?
Classes, labs, and tutorials will all end 10 minutes earlier than you see on the schedule - e.g., a class that is scheduled from 1:30-2:30 pm will actually end at 2:20. That 10 minute window will give you plenty of time to make it from any one building on main campus to another.
The exception to watch for is if a class located at Duncan McArthur Hall is scheduled back-to-back with a class at a building on main campus. Duncan McArthur Hall is on west campus, which is about a 15-20 minute walk from main campus. At least a half-hour gap should be scheduled between classes on west campus and classes on main campus.
A course I need says Department/Instructor consent to register. Where do I go?
You will need to send an email to the department that is offering the course so they can manually register you. You can find the email address for your instructors and the Undergraduate Staff through the Departmental websites.
I searched for a course listed on the Academic Calendar, but it isn鈥檛 showing up on SOLUS.
If you are basing your searches on our Academic Calendar or the SOLUS 鈥淏rowse Course Catalog鈥 function, keep in mind that it reflects all courses that could possibly be offered, but that does not mean a course will be offered for the upcoming year. If you cannot find a class in either the Fall or Winter term when searching in SOLUS, this means the class is not being offered.
I have a Program/Plan block on my account, and I can鈥檛 enrol into courses.
