ISLAND Arts Centre Programme - Watch Video
Una Casement introduces highlights in theatre, comedy, music, visual arts and film
Having celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2011, the ISLAND Arts Centre in Lisburn has scheduled a packed winter/spring programme of events that should make 2012 just as memorable.
In the video below, ISLAND Arts Centre arts information and education officer, Una Casement, looks forward to the best in theatre, comedy, visual arts, film and music.
This includes a high-octane production of Shakespeare’s bloody tragedy, Macbeth, Martin Lynch’s Brothers in Arms, an unflinching exploration of the republican movement in Northern Ireland, and Adolf, the critically acclaimed monodrama written by British actor and playwright Pip Utton.
Another theatrical highlight is the Irish premier of An Act of Kindness, an inspiring true story of love, life and assisted suicide. Written and performed by Chris Larner, this is a must see play.
Comedy fans will be amused at the ISLAND by Northern Irish funnyman Kevin McAleer and Funny Tricks, new show starring Ian Keable, 'a skilled magician with a rare gift for comedy'. The cinema schedule, meanwhile, sees ISLAND join up with Cinemagic Lisburn for screenings of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and more.
Music features Irish flautist Aisling Agnew and Scottish guitarist Matthew McAllister, Spanish guitar maestro Eduardo Niebla, the Mary Ryan Blues Trio, Ronnie Greer and an evening of baroque classics from the Ulster Orchestra.
ISLAND also has a wide selection of courses and workshops, ranging from painting in various mediums to digital photography, floral art, jewellery making, pottery and textiles. Visual art exhibitions also run throughout the year.
