What is the Queen’s University Alumni Association (QUAA)?

The QUAA is the formal, University recognized and affiliated group of Queen’s alumni, who seek to engage its members in the life and work of the university, and to serve the alumni community in all its diversity. All graduates of ³ÉÈË´óƬ, as well as non-grads (upon their intended year of graduation) who have completed one full academic year, are members of the QUAA. Members of the QUAA are engaged through worldwide events, volunteer opportunities, and community initiatives.

What are the benefits of being a part of the QUAA?

Members gain access to exclusive alumni events, networking opportunities, recognition awards, and a network that provides opportunities for professional and personal development. The QUAA also provides a platform to give back through volunteering and philanthropy.

What is the Queen’s University Alumni Association (QUAA) Board? How is it different than the QUAA?

While the QUAA encompasses the entire alumni community, the QUAA Board of Directors is a group of thirteen highly engaged volunteers who meet regularly, providing leadership, strategic direction, and oversight to ensure the Association’s activities align with university priorities, the QUAA mission and alumni needs.

What are the QUAA Board’s activities?

The Board‘s activities are primarily conducted through standing committees and include recognizing alumni through its annual Gala awards, promoting volunteer engagement and supporting alumni branches, chapters, and reunions, and promoting philanthropic giving. The Board may also strike ad-hoc committees from time to time, to assist with time-limited priorities. Notably, non-Board member alumni may be eligible to sit on the QUAA Board committees.

What are the roles and responsibilities of QUAA Board Directors?

Board Directors serve as ambassadors for the alumni community. Their responsibilities include attending meetings, participating on committees, supporting alumni programing, contributing to strategic decisions and fostering diversity and inclusion across alumni engagement. The Board also supports the alumni and student communities through awards and grants programming.

How does the QUAA Board support alumni and students through awards and grants?

The Board administers the QUAA Gala Awards and Alumni Association Grants programs recognizing alumni achievements, leadership, and community impact. These programs celebrate excellence and/or provide funding for alumni and student-driven initiatives that align with the QUAA Mission.

How can alumni join the QUAA Board?

Alumni can apply during the Board’s annual recruitment period. Candidates typically demonstrate leadership, volunteerism, and a strong commitment to the Queen’s community.

When does the QUAA Board typically recruit new Directors?

Director terms are 2-year (renewable up to a total of 6 years) and run from May 1 – April 30. The QUAA Board assesses its membership annually each fall. If there are openings on the Board a director recruitment cycle will begin in January or February with onboarding beginning in the spring to orient new members and official start being May 1.

Are there other ways to engage with the Board, other than being a director? 

Up to 4 non-Board alumni may be eligible to sit on a working committee of the Board. The Board’s working Committees are Alumni Giving Committee, Alumni Recognition Committee, Alumni Outreach & Volunteer Engagement Committee. Alumni and students can also engage with the QUAA Board, share ideas and activities by reaching out to the QUAA Board at quaa.board@queensu.ca.

Where can alumni go to stay informed on QUAA Board news and updates?

Follow the QUAA on , and at @queensualumni, email the QUAA Board at quaa.board@queensu.ca or join the virtual QUAA Annual General Meeting (AGM). All members of the QUAA are welcome to join the AGM, however only Alumni Assembly Members are eligible to vote or support the passing of motions.
 

What is Alumni Assembly?

The Alumni Assembly is the voting body for the QUAA and is vested with constitutional amending power for the Association. The Assembly is a diverse cross-section of alumni volunteers and student leaders who come together as liaisons of their respective communities to share ideas and support both the Association and University with their priorities.
